Lara Cricket Club focuses on nurturing youth for another season

Published: 26/08/2022

The 2022-23 season presents another exciting opportunity for the Lara Cricket Club junior boys and girls.

“Participation” is a key word that resonates with the club, especially for junior cricket players looking to improve their cricket ability.

With the help of the club’s senior players to mentor and nurture the junior programs, the club says they are able to provide the best facilities and opportunities for young people in the community.

Lara Cricket Club Chairman John Speirs said the club prided itself on being more than just a club, describing itself as a community group committed to promoting sport to families throughout the region – obviously with a strong passion for cricket.

“We are heavily promoting the club to new Lara residents as a place where everyone is welcome and at all levels,” Mr Speirs said.

Junior participation levels have remained strong with enrolment numbers continuing to grow, bringing in some excellent results for the club.

“We now have 180 kids playing cricket throughout all age groups, placed in suitable divisions that are competitive but mostly enjoyable,” Mr Speirs said.

Mr Speirs added that the junior and senior teams represented the club well last season with several teams sitting high on their respective ladders.

“Our senior women’s team played in the semi-finals for the second consecutive season and Stage 2 girls finished as Premier and Championship titles,” he said.

“Our senior women’s team continues to improve and we are hoping they will make it to the finals again this season.”

The club relies heavily on sponsors, including Bisinella, so it can provide essential items such as equipment, jumpers and uniforms, help with improvements to the Lara Cricket Club precinct and assist with general running costs.

Bisinella has proudly supported Lara Cricket Club since 2009.

Bisinella Director Richard Bisinella said he was delighted to support the club and provide valuable sporting opportunities for youth in Lara.

The Lara Cricket Club officially commences its season from October 1, 2022.

Mr Speirs said the club looked forward to another successful season and was already pre-planning for its major milestone in 2025 when it celebrates its 150th anniversary.
